PAINTING LANDSCAPES

Painting is something I have inherited from my uncle. I love to paint landscapes, still life setups or potraits of people and animals. I have been painting since I was about 10 years old. My mother used silently to collect all the watercolours I used to paint on small pieces of paper. Later in my life, she moved me to tears by gifting me with a framed landscape painting that I had created when I was 11.

PORTRAITS

Most of the portraits I paint are that of my family, my friends and their family members. It gives me immense satisfaction to bring to life a person on canvas and have that person forever immortalized. A hand-painted portrait has feelings and emotions attached to it than just a photograph. My most recent one was when I painted my daugher, a project that had been my dream ever since she was born.

CRAFT - Sewing

Just like painting, sewing can be a stress reliever. The constant humming of the sewing machine can be calming to the person and to see their creativity come out in the form of a beautiful object, weather it is a dress or a bag, is a reward in itself. When my daughter was born, I realized that there were so many things I could make for her. I started hand-stiching clothes for her, just because I wanted to. Now, I have a sewing machine that makes the whole process a lot simpler and faster.

CRAFT - Bags

From sewing clothes for my daughter, I also started making different kinds of bags. The remnant fabrics in arts & crafts stores can be a blessing for someone who loves to create from vibrant fabrics. Coming from a culturally rich country like India, there are so many colourful craft supplies that I am able to procure from there and incorporate into my creations. I have made several items, from a back-pack for my daughter to smaller cross-body bags for friends.

CRAFT - Knitting

Knitting is something that I learnt from an old lady, while I was growing up. She taught me to use the knitting needles and crochet hooks to come up with beautiful patterns of sweaters, scarves and gloves. Now I also make bags using different knitting patterns. Knitting, like reading, is a hobby that can be taken up and practiced anywhere. You can be lounging with a group of friends or traveling while knitting.

CUISINE - Paakshaala

Cooking is an art in itself. All the cultures in this world originated with the message of healthy eating. Cuisines across the board have evolved to incorporate flavours from different cultures, to suite the multinational pallete. Indian cuisine involves a use of scores of aromatic and spicy flavours that entice a food lover's tongue while catering to a healthy lifestyle.

My love of cooking takes me across the Indian borders to experiment with multinational cuisines.
